There is some bug in the iPhone mail app

Now it says I have -4 messages and 5 of them are unread, when I really have none, either read or unread.

Use Yahoo! search on iPhone!!

I just changed my iPhone Safari prefs to use Yahoo! for search. Now I can read and use the search results!

2 Billion + messages!

Is this what everyone gets? After I delete all my emails in my inbox on my iPhone, because I use a different system as my primary mail system, I get this. 2,147,483,644 unread messages. Given that this is only 4 less than 2^32, I am guessing it is some type conversion or overflow problem.

Reading news on iPhone

I have a new iPhone, and I have been trying to figure out how to read news on it. Sure, I can sort of read regular web sites, but it is not exactly user friendly to do that. NYT has narrow columns, so it sort of works. Other places, I end up scrolling horizontally back and forth. I don't really want to read in depth articles on my iPhone, just a quick news summary, like you get in some rss feeds. There is the rss reader that apple provides, but that limits the summaries to 2 lines. I hate that. And I think you have to use bookmarks, which I think are a little cumbersome anyway.

So I put together a simple quick and dirty rss reader site, with some rss feeds right in a pulldown. You could potentially build a link to read your own custom rss feeds, but I have not made that easy yet.

I am now working on iPhone development. I will post soon on some apps I am building, but it seems to me that the best tip I have seen is this one. It is just what you need when you really need it. Tap on the top of the screen to scroll to the top in the iPhone Safari browser. Now if I could just get the mapping to work well...

Big Digg

Well, this is a funny thing for the first post of this blog, but...

This is what I hate about Digg's comment system. It uses WAAAAAY too much vertical space for the stuff around the comments, rather than the comments themselves. In this view, there are 14 lines of comments. And there are 18 "lines" (which are almost 2 times the hight of the comment lines) of stuff in between, including the blue and gray headers and the "reply to" stuff. That is about 1/3 devoted to the comments, and 2/3 devoted to the other stuff.

They should have some minimalist stuff surrounding the comments, like a little icon next to it that brings up a menu... Perhaps I could write a new interface to Digg that did this, but I am busy doing other things, and I figure they have some smart people there too.
